Spoonful

A while back we stumbled upon the wondrously happy world that is Lady Lucas (aka Ashley Lucas)! I have a crush on her torn paper pig & cat – aren’t they cute(?!)
Ashley was kind enough to design a little Spoon-related craft for us to divert the busy from their work (naughty we know) and busy the hands for a few moments of happiness. Her project, a darn cute Magical SPOWL! (A Spoonful Owl! Half Spoon, half owl. Stop it,I know ;) is here below, our next issue will have little bits of magic sprinkled all over it, so it seems very fitting to be making magical owls! I can visualise a whole circle of spoons and children sitting around a table & decorating, can’t you? Ashley says to: Make these wonderful puppets using nothing more than a simple wooden spoon and some common household art supplies.  When you’re done with the first one… perhaps you’d like to make a whole Spowl family? ;)

Materials:
1 Wooden Spoon
Foam or Card Stock
Acrylic Paint in Assorted Colors
Hot Glue or Strong Craft Glue
Optional: A Permanent Marker

How To:
Paint the top of a wooden spoon with some colorful acrylic paint – you can use a large brush for this.  After the color dries, add some eyes, a beak and some colorful details with a smaller brush.  You can leave the handle of the spoon natural {as I did} or add a fun a pattern with the rest of your paint!
Next, cut out two small triangles out of foam or strong paper.  Hot glue them to the top of the spoon as ears.
Cut two larger triangles out and glue them to the sides of your owl for wings.
Lastly, you can go over the features of your owl with a permanent marker to make your little owl ‘really stand out’!

Enjoy!

P.S. Thea here again, if you make a Magical Spowl, send us some pics! We wanna see! :)
P.P.S. See more or Ashley at her website & shop.
